Welcome To Stafford Rapier Society

Stafford Rapier Society is a sword study group that was formed in 2002 by Master Mike Ray and a group of friends with the aim of studying and recreating all forms of western martial arts. Focusing on various sword forms including Sword and Buckler, Hand and a Half and Rapier; we present historically based displays along with instructional presentations on combat in 13th-16th Century.

Each member has trained to use the weapons on display which minimises the risk of injury considerably and still allows us to present combat as it would have been across the ages.

From Medieval mercenaries to a medieval fencing school and even pirates! you will see the combat close up, loud, fast and exciting from a melee to a one on one duel.

Our group focuses on the art of sword fighting itself rather than the living history of the time, this means our costumes are made using modern techniques and some artistic license!  Be assured however,  that the sword work you see is all based on historical manuscripts and techniques and is as close to the real thing as you can get!
